Union ministers are preparing to take to the streets in a coordinated campaign designed to address opposition concerns regarding electoral roll management and the integrity of India's democratic processes. The initiative comes as opposition parties have staged protests challenging the Systematic Voters' Roll Revision (SIR) process and raising questions about its implementation.
The BJP government has framed the campaign as an awareness initiative focused on three key areas: maintaining the integrity of electoral rolls, explaining the SIR process, and reinforcing broader democratic values. Officials contend that accurate voter rolls are essential for ensuring free and fair elections and preventing electoral malpractices.
Opposition parties have questioned the SIR methodology, claiming it poses risks to voter eligibility and democratic participation. They have organized demonstrations and demanded greater transparency in how electoral rolls are revised and updated across states.
The street campaign represents the government's effort to counter criticism directly, engaging citizens on the ground and presenting its perspective on electoral administration. Ministers are expected to participate in public meetings and address community gatherings in various regions.
