Unity government relations solid despite Najib pardon decision, says Zahid

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi said the unity government's relationships remain intact following the royal pardon granted to former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, despite some parties holding differing positions on the matter.

Zahid noted that the coalition partners have demonstrated maturity in handling their divergent views while maintaining focus on government operations and public service delivery.

"All parties in the unity government are acting professionally in managing government affairs," Zahid said, emphasizing the collective commitment to governance despite the controversial decision affecting one of the coalition's prominent figures.

The assurance comes as the pardon decision prompted mixed reactions from various political factions within the broad-based coalition that has governed Malaysia since 2022. The unity government comprises parties from both the Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan, among others.

Zahid's statement underscores efforts to maintain cohesion within the fragile political alliance at a time when consensus on major decisions remains challenging across the diverse coalition membership.
