Unrecognised Gujarat parties amass ₹510 crore in FY25, report shows

Data compiled by the Association for Democratic Reforms reveals that unrecognised and registered unrecognised political parties (RUPPs) operating in Gujarat accumulated the highest income among all Indian states during FY 2024-25. The 29 Gujarat-based entities collectively reported ₹510 crore in income and donations, demonstrating significant financial mobilisation across the state's fragmented political landscape.

Unrecognised parties operate outside the formal structure of the Election Commission's registered political parties, yet are permitted to contest elections under specific conditions. These entities have proliferated across India in recent years, with Gujarat emerging as a particularly active hub for such political formations.

Despite commanding substantial financial resources, the data underscores a persistent disconnect between monetary strength and electoral viability for these parties. The majority have struggled to convert their financial capacity into electoral victories or meaningful political representation, raising questions about the efficacy of their organisational structures and campaign strategies.

The concentration of unrecognised party income in Gujarat reflects the state's diverse and competitive political environment. Political analysts suggest the phenomenon highlights how financial resources alone do not guarantee electoral success, with factors such as ground organisation, voter mobilisation, and political messaging proving equally critical to electoral outcomes.
