UP ATS arrests suspected AQIS operative in Tamil Nadu

The UP ATS detained Maksudul Ali in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, on suspicion of connections to AQIS, the Indian subcontinent affiliate of the global terrorist network. According to the agency, Ali's arrest was based on information and evidence uncovered during the interrogation and investigation of Mohammed Nabeel, who was apprehended earlier.

ATS officials said the arrest is part of a broader operation against individuals allegedly influenced by AQIS ideology and associated with what investigators describe as a terror module. The agency has characterized the group as part of the wider prohibited terrorist organization.

The anti-terror squad is now conducting detailed investigations into the structure and activities of the alleged network, including examination of operational aspects and connections among suspected members. Authorities indicated that further arrests and follow-up operations are possible as the investigation progresses.

Questioning of previous suspects, including Nabeel, proved instrumental in identifying additional individuals allegedly involved in the network. The UP ATS has been intensifying counter-terror operations across northern India in recent months to dismantle suspected sleeper cells and prevent attacks.
