UP bolsters river monitoring after deadly Nepal flash floods

Authorities in Uttar Pradesh have intensified monitoring operations across water bodies in Maharajganj and Kushinagar districts following the catastrophic flash floods that struck Nepal. The state shares its northern border with Nepal and faces potential spillover effects from the disaster, which has left thousands missing amid widespread devastation.

The UP administration has implemented heightened alert protocols in vulnerable villages along the border while keeping relief and rescue teams positioned for rapid deployment. The state government has dispatched a 32-member SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) platoon and 22 PAC (Provincial Armed Constabulary) personnel to Nepal for ongoing rescue and relief operations, acting on directions from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Response capabilities have been strengthened with four rubber boats already deployed and an aluminium boat being sent along with an additional SDRF platoon. The relief commissioner's control room continues to monitor border districts and coordinate emergency operations. A dedicated helpline numbered 1070 has been established to assist families seeking information about stranded UP residents in the affected areas.

The flash floods in Nepal were triggered by heavy rainfall and have created significant humanitarian concerns across the border region, prompting the coordinated response from the UP administration to protect its citizens and provide assistance to those affected.
