UP Chief Minister warns against elements seeking to discredit Ram Temple movement

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday cautioned Hindu activists to exercise caution against individuals seeking to tarnish the Ram Temple movement, amid broader concerns about the credibility of the decade-long campaign.

Addressing a gathering organised to mark the birth centenary of a prominent religious figure associated with the Temple movement, Adityanath urged followers to remain alert to potential infiltrators within their ranks. He stressed the importance of protecting the integrity of the movement from detractors, without specifying particular individuals or groups.

The Chief Minister's remarks come as the Ram Temple construction project, completed last year in Ayodhya, remains a contentious political issue across India. His cautionary statement suggests continued concern within certain political circles about maintaining consensus around the temple's religious and cultural significance.

Adityanath's comments reflect ongoing tensions between different political factions regarding how the temple movement's legacy should be characterised and preserved. State officials have previously sought to distance the movement from what they describe as fringe elements or undesirable conduct.
