The UP Diliman University Student Council has petitioned university leadership to grant academic leniency in light of ongoing weather-related hardships affecting the student body. In a formal letter submitted to the Office of the Chancellor and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, student representatives outlined the challenges students continue to face due to inclement weather conditions.
The council emphasized that off-campus and commuting students have been disproportionately affected by the weather situation, struggling to attend classes and complete academic requirements. The petition comes as weather-related disruptions persist across the Metro Manila area, impacting daily operations and student mobility.
Among the requests outlined in the letter are extensions for assignment deadlines, flexible attendance policies, and consideration for students unable to participate in in-person activities. The student council argued that such measures would help ensure equitable access to education while weather conditions remain challenging.
The university has not yet issued an official response to the student council's petition. The matter now rests with senior academic administrators tasked with balancing student welfare concerns with institutional academic standards.
