Dr. Sukhiya Jain, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, was admitted to hospital after falling approximately 800 feet down a hillside near Vagamon in Idukki district on Monday. The incident occurred when the physician's footing gave way while traversing a mountain path close to a natural infinity pool, a popular tourist attraction in the region.
The 28-year-old doctor plummeted down the steep ravine but was rescued by emergency services and quickly transported to a nearby medical facility. Doctors treating him said the survival was attributed to fortunate circumstances, including the terrain where he landed and the rapid response of rescue teams.
The incident underscores ongoing safety concerns regarding trekking routes and tourist trails across Kerala's hill stations. Authorities have previously warned visitors to exercise caution on unmarked or poorly maintained pathways, particularly during monsoon and post-monsoon seasons when ground conditions become unstable.
Vagamon, situated at an elevation of over 2,000 meters, attracts thousands of domestic and international tourists annually. Local tourism officials have announced plans to review safety protocols at popular trekking sites in the region, including improved trail signage and barrier installations at high-risk locations.
