UP Power Corporation Opens Rehiring Path for Displaced Outsourced Workers

The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has announced a significant policy shift that offers relief to thousands of displaced outsourced electricity workers. The decision to reopen avenues for rehiring marks a reversal in the corporation's earlier workforce reduction measures that had affected more than 25,000 employees across the state.

In addition to the reinstatement pathway, the corporation has raised the mandatory retirement age for its workers from 55 to 60 years, extending their tenure by five additional years. This adjustment is expected to provide enhanced job security and extended income stability for a significant portion of the workforce.

Employees aged 55 and above who wish to continue working will be required to submit medical fitness certificates and affidavits to the corporation as part of the reinstatement process. These documentation requirements are intended to ensure that returning workers meet the necessary health and administrative standards.

The move comes as a response to longstanding grievances from displaced workers and their unions, who have sought restoration of employment following the earlier layoffs. The new framework is expected to facilitate a phased return of outsourced staff to the corporation's operations across Uttar Pradesh.
