Upcountry rail services resume October 2 after cyclone damage repairs
Train services on Sri Lanka's Upcountry Line will resume on October 2 following completion of repairs to track damage caused by Cyclone Ditwah. The resumption will restore connectivity between Colombo Fort, Peradeniya, and Gampola.

Sri Lanka Railways has announced the reinstatement of train services on the strategic Upcountry Line after extensive restoration work on cyclone-damaged sections of track. Services between Colombo Fort, Peradeniya, and Gampola will recommence from October 2, the national rail operator confirmed in a statement.
Cyclone Ditwah inflicted significant damage to portions of the railway infrastructure serving the central highlands region. The restoration effort has addressed the track damage sustained during the weather event, allowing normal operations to resume on the key route that connects the capital to upcountry destinations.
Intercity Train No. 1029 will be among the services returning to operation as part of the phased resumption of the Upcountry Line schedule. The restoration of these services is expected to ease transportation for commuters and commercial traffic dependent on the railway corridor.
The Upcountry Line serves as a vital transport artery for the central region, facilitating passenger and freight movement between lowland and highland areas of Sri Lanka.
