Uprooted trees crush vehicles as heavy rain batters Penang

Heavy downpours swept through Seberang Perai Tengah, leaving a trail of damage as large trees were uprooted by strong winds and saturated soil conditions. A taxi and a private car were among the vehicles crushed beneath fallen trees during the weather event, according to initial reports.

The flooding affected multiple residential and commercial areas across the district, disrupting traffic and daily activities for residents. Emergency services responded to calls from affected residents as the situation developed throughout the afternoon.

Statewide, the torrential rain added to concerns about drainage capacity in low-lying areas of Penang, which regularly experiences flash flooding during monsoon seasons and periods of heavy precipitation. Authorities have yet to issue official statements regarding the total extent of damage or any injuries resulting from the fallen trees.

Roadsides and public spaces remained congested as crews worked to clear debris and restore access to affected areas. Residents were advised to exercise caution during continued wet weather and to remain alert for further hazards such as weakened trees and flooded roads.
