US city transforms recycled bottles into floating wetland islands

In an effort to combine waste management with environmental restoration, Dubuque, Iowa has successfully converted a large quantity of recycled plastic bottles into functional floating islands within a creek system. The project utilized more than 67,000 discarded bottles as the buoyant base for the artificial wetland islands, which are now populated with native aquatic plants.

The floating islands serve multiple environmental purposes within the creek ecosystem.
