The U.S. Department of Defense has authorized the sale of KC-46A Pegasus aerial refuelling aircraft to Qatar in a deal valued at approximately $4.5 billion. Qatar had requested the purchase of up to four of these advanced military transport aircraft to bolster its air-to-air refuelling capabilities.

The KC-46A is a modern military tanker aircraft designed to refuel fighter jets and other aircraft in mid-air, extending their operational range and endurance. The variant being sold to Qatar will be equipped with sophisticated missile warning sensors, enhancing the aircraft's defensive capabilities and situational awareness during operations.

The sale represents part of ongoing U.S. defence cooperation with Qatar, a strategic ally in the Middle East and host to major U.S. military installations. The aircraft will significantly upgrade Qatar's aerial refuelling infrastructure and support regional air operations.

The deal follows established U.S. defence procurement protocols and underscores Washington's commitment to maintaining security partnerships in the Gulf region. The KC-46A has been adopted by multiple allied nations and is considered among the most advanced aerial refuelling platforms currently in service.
