Dartmouth College has received a $150 million charitable bequest from Glenn Britt, former chief executive of Time Warner Cable, and his wife Barbara, substantially expanding financial aid for students from middle-income families.
The donation will raise the annual family income threshold at which students receive full scholarship support—requiring no parental contribution—from $65,000 to $125,000. The college projects the enhanced aid programme will directly benefit approximately 350 additional families each academic year, making higher education more accessible to a broader demographic segment.
Beyond undergraduate scholarships, the Britts' contribution extends to Dartmouth's Tuck School of Business, one of the nation's leading graduate business programmes. The gift is intended to deepen financial support for postgraduate students pursuing advanced management education.
The bequest represents one of the largest individual philanthropic commitments to the institution in recent years and underscores ongoing efforts by universities to address mounting concerns about educational affordability in the United States. Such large-scale gifts have become increasingly important as student debt levels continue to rise across American higher education.
