US court orders removal of Trump ads deemed political propaganda

US District Judge Jennifer L. Rochon sided with Common Cause and other coalition members in ordering the federal government to remove three advertisements that appeared designed to promote political messaging rather than serve legitimate government purposes.

The ads in question were titled "$5,000 to Americans," "Every Democrat Voted Against No Tax on Tips," and "Cost of Socialism." One advertisement prominently featured claims that every American would receive $5,000 if Republicans maintained control of the House and Senate following the midterm elections.

The judge ordered that the advertisements be removed from all official government websites and social media platforms, including YouTube and Instagram. The ruling also covers any reserved advertising slots, placements, or arrangements made through authorized third parties for the ads' continued distribution.

The decision underscores ongoing legal tensions over the use of government resources for political messaging. Common Cause and allied groups had challenged the advertisements as an improper expenditure of taxpayer funds for partisan purposes, arguing they crossed the line between legitimate government communication and political campaigning.
