US court resolves two-decade property dispute in Delaware

A Delaware court has formally awarded ownership of a contested rear yard parcel to Joseph W.C. Murray, Jr. and Danielle F. Murray, concluding a protracted property dispute that spanned two decades. The ruling represents a significant development in the case, which had become increasingly contentious over the years.

The legal conflict originated when the Preradovic family, after purchasing an adjacent property, challenged the established property lines dividing the two estates. The neighbours subsequently sought to reclaim the disputed land and demanded USD 30,000 from the Murrays, who refused to concede ownership.

Attempts at negotiated settlement between the two parties ultimately failed, forcing the matter into the court system. After years of litigation, the Delaware court sided with the Murrays regarding the rear yard portion of the disputed property. However, the court rejected their claims to front areas of the land, granting the Preradovic family ownership of those sections.

The resolution concludes one of the region's more protracted residential property disputes, providing clarity to both families regarding their respective land boundaries after two decades of legal uncertainty.
