US FDA flags compliance issues at Gland Pharma's Hyderabad facility

The US Food and Drug Administration has documented four observations against Gland Pharma Limited following an unannounced inspection of its formulation manufacturing facility in Dundigal, Hyderabad, conducted between October 12 and 23.

The observations were formally recorded on Form 483, which the FDA issues when inspectors identify potential violations of current good manufacturing practice (CGMP) regulations. The agency uses this mechanism to alert companies to compliance gaps that require corrective action.

Gland Pharma, one of India's leading pharmaceutical manufacturers, operates the facility as part of its formulation production capabilities. The company now faces the task of responding to the FDA's findings with documented corrective and preventive actions within a specified timeframe.

The specific nature of the four observations has not been detailed. Companies receiving Form 483 observations typically have 15 working days to respond to the FDA with their action plan addressing each finding. The response will be critical in determining whether the facility maintains its eligibility to supply products to the US market.

This development adds to the ongoing scrutiny of Indian pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities by international regulators, though the issuance of Form 483 observations does not necessarily result in import restrictions or facility closure.
