US imposes sanctions on three Turkish firms over Iran connections

The Treasury Department designated Golden Global Portfoy Yonetimi Anonim Sirketi, Golden Global Varlik Kiralama Anonim Sirketi, and Golden Global Yatirim Bankasi Anonim Sirketi as entities facilitating prohibited transactions connected to Iran. The move restricts these companies from accessing the US financial system and prohibits American individuals and entities from conducting business with them.

The sanctions represent Washington's continuing effort to enforce restrictions on Iran-related financial activity, particularly through intermediaries in third countries. Turkish-based firms have historically served as conduits for transactions involving sanctioned Iranian entities, prompting US authorities to maintain scrutiny of such operations.

The designations underscore American resolve in enforcing Iran sanctions despite international trade dynamics. Any assets held by the three companies within US jurisdiction have been frozen, and entities that knowingly facilitate transactions with them face potential secondary sanctions.

Turkey, as a NATO member and major trading hub, has faced repeated pressure from Washington regarding sanctions compliance. Officials have emphasized the importance of preventing the circumvention of Iran restrictions through third-country intermediaries, particularly in financial and trade sectors.
