Bilateral trade negotiations between India and the United States are progressing at an unusually rapid pace, with major sticking points now resolved, US Ambassador Sergio Gor indicated on Monday. The envoy's comments suggest that a comprehensive trade agreement between the two nations could be finalized in the coming weeks, marking a significant development in economic ties between New Delhi and Washington.
"Big items are done," Gor said, underscoring that both delegations have successfully navigated through the most contentious aspects of the proposed accord. The ambassador noted that the speed of progress in these negotiations stands in sharp contrast to the lengthy timelines typically required for such bilateral trade pacts.
India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar similarly projected confidence about the trajectory of talks, suggesting that the groundwork laid thus far points toward a successful conclusion. The minister's remarks indicate broad alignment between the two governments on the framework and key terms of the agreement.
The potential trade deal represents a cornerstone of deepening economic cooperation between India and the United States, particularly as both nations seek to strengthen strategic partnership across multiple sectors including technology, defence, and energy. Completion of the accord would provide a formal architecture for increased bilateral commerce and investment flows.
