US inflation remains challenge despite economic strength, Fed official says
A senior Federal Reserve official has acknowledged that American policymakers still have significant work ahead in tackling persistent inflation, even as the broader economy shows resilience. Kevin Warsh noted the economy is displaying robust business investment and consumer spending, complicating the inflation-fighting task.

Kevin Warsh, a prominent voice within the Federal Reserve, has signalled that controlling elevated US inflation remains an unfinished priority despite positive economic indicators elsewhere in the American economy.
Warsh characterised the current economic backdrop as strengthening, pointing to solid business investment and sustained consumer spending as evidence of underlying economic resilience. Earnings growth has similarly remained robust, he noted, painting a picture of an economy that continues to function with considerable momentum.
However, the persistence of high inflation levels indicates that the Fed's efforts to bring price pressures under control have not fully succeeded. This tension between a resilient economy and stubborn inflation presents a policy challenge for US central bankers as they weigh the competing objectives of maintaining growth while reducing price pressures.
The Fed has been navigating a delicate balance as it seeks to cool inflation without triggering a sharper economic slowdown. Comments from senior officials like Warsh suggest that policymakers recognise more action may be needed to bring inflation closer to the central bank's 2 per cent target.
