External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has suggested that the United States is increasingly distancing itself from global affairs, allowing China to expand its influence on the international stage. Speaking at a major address, Jaishankar reflected on shifting geopolitical dynamics and their implications for India's foreign policy positioning in an evolving world order.
Beyond his observations on great power competition, the minister articulated a comprehensive vision for India's economic trajectory in the coming years. He outlined key initiatives and structural reforms necessary to sustain growth momentum and strengthen India's economic resilience amid global uncertainties.
Jaishankar also emphasised India's engagement with emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, as a strategic priority for future development. He underscored the potential for AI-driven innovation to enhance productivity across sectors and create new opportunities for economic expansion.
The minister further highlighted India's trade engagement with the European Union, pointing to the ongoing free trade agreement negotiations as crucial for deepening economic ties with developed markets. He characterised the FTA discussions as integral to India's broader strategy of diversifying trade partnerships and reducing dependence on any single market.
These remarks reflect India's calibrated approach to navigating geopolitical realignments while pursuing domestic economic growth and strategic autonomy in an increasingly multipolar world.
