US judge halts Trump admin's taxpayer-funded TV ad campaign
A federal judge in New York has ordered the Trump administration to immediately cancel television commercials funded by taxpayer money that promoted the president's political message. The decision came after watchdog groups challenged the ads as an illegal misuse of public funds.

US District Judge Jennifer L. Rochon issued a temporary restraining order on Sunday directing the administration to cease all remaining broadcasts of the controversial advertisements, including spots scheduled to air that evening.
The ruling sided with a coalition of challengers led by Common Cause, a nonpartisan government watchdog organization, which argued the ad campaign constituted an unlawful expenditure of federal funds for political purposes. The judge's order required the administration to pull all remaining commercials from television networks immediately.
The Trump administration had indicated separately that the ad campaign was being wound down, though the timing and scope of that decision remained unclear. The judge's intervention ensured the immediate halt of the initiative, preventing any further use of taxpayer resources for promotional messaging.
The case represents an ongoing legal battle over the appropriate use of government funds for communications efforts. Common Cause and allied organizations have mounted similar legal challenges to advertising campaigns they view as crossing ethical and legal boundaries regarding the use of public money for political messaging.
