A conflict between the United States and Iran has resulted in the destruction or damage of 81 American aircraft, according to reports detailing the military engagement.
The losses comprised a substantial portion of US air assets deployed in the region. The damaged or destroyed aircraft included 45 MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial vehicles, which are among the most advanced surveillance and strike drones in the US military arsenal. The toll also included 12 F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jets, which serve as primary air-to-ground attack aircraft for the US Air Force.
Additional losses encompassed seven KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft, which are critical for mid-air refueling operations, and one F-35A Lightning II fighter jet. The F-35A represents the latest generation of stealth fighter technology and is among the most expensive military platforms in operation.
The scale of aircraft losses underscores the intensity of the military engagement. Such losses would typically represent a significant strategic setback, affecting operational capabilities and requiring substantial resource commitment for replacement and repair.
