US midterm elections break corporate donation records at $646 million

Corporate donations to the US midterm elections have shattered previous records, reaching $646 million and outpacing total corporate spending from the previous presidential election cycle by a significant margin.

The surge reflects intensified business interest in shaping the outcome of legislative races, with technology, cryptocurrency and online gambling companies leading the charge. These three sectors alone have contributed $344 million, accounting for more than half of all corporate donations recorded so far.

The unprecedented funding levels underscore the high stakes involved in the midterm contests, which will determine control of Congress and influence the regulatory landscape for several industries. Cryptocurrency firms, in particular, have emerged as major political spenders, seeking to shape policy on digital assets and blockchain technology.

Analysts say the record spending reflects both the competitive nature of the races and heightened efforts by major industries to secure favorable legislative outcomes. The contributions highlight how campaign finance dynamics have shifted, with technology-driven sectors now rivaling traditional industries in their political influence and investment.
