The US Navy has formally approved a financial agreement with Brookfield Properties for the redevelopment of approximately 2,422 acres at the site of California's former Concord Naval Weapons Station. Under the arrangement, Brookfield Properties will contribute $44.6 million plus accrued interest as the project's master developer.
The approval represents a significant milestone for the long-stalled redevelopment initiative, enabling local authorities and Brookfield to advance preparation of a Specific Plan—a detailed blueprint governing how the vast property will be utilized going forward. The plan is expected to outline zoning designations, infrastructure requirements, and development phasing across the site.
Community stakeholders can anticipate expanded engagement and consultation opportunities beginning in early 2027, according to project timelines. This engagement phase will allow residents, municipal officials, and other interested parties to review and comment on the proposed development strategy before final approvals are sought.
The former naval installation, once a critical storage and logistics facility, has remained largely undeveloped since its closure. The redevelopment initiative aims to transform the property into a productive asset while addressing infrastructure needs and economic development objectives in the broader Concord region.
