The USS Canberra (LCS-30), a Littoral Combat Ship operated by the U.S. Navy, set sail from Colombo on 27 October following a brief replenishment visit to the island nation. The vessel had arrived at the port on 26 October as part of its operational schedule in the region.
Upon departure, the Sri Lanka Navy extended customary naval honours to the American warship, a diplomatic gesture reflecting the established relationship between the two nations' maritime services. The exchange of courtesies underscored the ongoing defence and naval cooperation between Sri Lanka and the United States.
Littoral Combat Ships such as the USS Canberra are designed for operations in shallow coastal waters and are equipped for a range of missions including surface warfare, anti-submarine operations and mine countermeasures. The vessel's visit to Colombo provided an opportunity for replenishment and resupply during its deployment to the South and Southeast Asian region.
The port call marks part of the United States Navy's continued presence and engagement in the Indian Ocean, supporting regional stability and freedom of navigation objectives.
