US Navy Sinks Drug Cartel's Floating Fuel Station in Pacific

US naval forces have destroyed a floating refuelling station suspected of supplying Ecuador's Los Choneros drug trafficking organization, marking another blow against illicit supply networks in the Western Hemisphere. The vessel was intercepted on September 16 in the Eastern Pacific Ocean during a targeted maritime interdiction operation.

Following the interception, US forces secured the floating facility and removed its crew from the vessel. The personnel aboard were subsequently transferred to Ecuadorian authorities for further processing and investigation. The capture represents a significant disruption to the logistical chains that sustain transnational drug smuggling operations across the region.

After clearing the vessel and extracting crew members, US forces proceeded to sink the refuelling station, eliminating its potential for future use in drug trafficking activities. Officials characterized the operation as part of broader efforts to dismantle the infrastructure networks that enable narcotics trafficking between South America and consumption markets in North America.

The Los Choneros organization has been identified as a major player in Ecuador's drug trade, operating sophisticated maritime smuggling routes. The destruction of floating fuel depots removes a critical element in the cartels' ability to transport large quantities of cocaine and other narcotics across vast ocean distances without requiring port access.
