US Olympic body expects domestic Games to boost participation surge

NEW YORK — The prospect of hosting two Olympic Games within a six-year window is expected to generate substantial momentum for sports participation across the United States, according to U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee leadership.
The consecutive domestic Games, beginning with Los Angeles in 2028 and followed by Salt Lake City in 2034, present a unique opportunity to sustain public engagement with Olympic competition, USOPC officials indicated. The proximity of the two events could create extended promotional opportunities and infrastructure benefits that extend beyond the Games themselves.
Los Angeles will mark the third time the city has hosted the Summer Olympics, following previous Games in 1932 and 1984. Salt Lake City hosted the Winter Olympics in 2002 and will become only the second U.S. city to host both Summer and Winter Games.
The consecutive hosting periods are expected to drive grassroots participation and athlete development across multiple sports disciplines. Officials anticipate the Games will elevate visibility for Olympic programs and inspire increased investment in training facilities and coaching infrastructure nationwide.
The back-to-back domestic Games represent a significant commitment by the United States to the Olympic movement and an opportunity to demonstrate the country's capacity to deliver world-class sporting events on consecutive occasions.
