US Police Officer Kills Miniature Donkey, Cites Self-Defence

A miniature donkey was fatally shot by a police officer in Georgia in an incident that has sparked debate over the use of force against animals. The officer involved stated that the animal, a one-year-old named HeeHaw, charged at him during an encounter, prompting him to use his firearm in what he characterized as self-defence.

The owner of the miniature donkey contested the official account, expressing grief over the loss of the animal. The owner characterised HeeHaw as a cherished companion rather than a threat, questioning the necessity of lethal action.

Miniature donkeys, typically standing around three feet tall at the shoulder, are small domesticated animals commonly kept as pets or companion animals. The incident has drawn attention to questions surrounding police protocols when encountering animals, particularly in residential settings where pets may be present during emergency responses.
