Washington lifted the sanctions designation on Friday, according to documents posted on the US Treasury Department's website. The move came after the individual filed suit seeking removal from the sanctions list.
The businesswoman's father has faced allegations of providing financial support to Myanmar's military establishment. Such sanctions are typically imposed under US programmes targeting individuals and entities deemed to pose risks to national security or to have engaged in activities contrary to American foreign policy interests.
The case underscores the challenges faced by family members of sanctioned individuals who seek to clear their names through the American legal system. Individuals can petition for delisting, and in some cases succeed in having sanctions removed if they demonstrate they do not warrant continued designation.
Myanmmar has faced intensified international scrutiny and sanctions pressure since the military coup in February 2021. The United States and other Western nations have imposed extensive measures against the junta and its supporters, though such designations remain subject to legal review and removal procedures.
