Secretary of State Marco Rubio is set to depart for Central Asia on October 17, with his itinerary spanning through October 22, marking a significant diplomatic push into the strategically important region.
The top US diplomat will begin his tour in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, where he is scheduled to attend a C5+1 ministerial meeting. This multilateral engagement will bring together the five Central Asian nations—Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan—alongside American representatives to discuss regional cooperation and bilateral interests.
Beyond the multilateral forum, Rubio has scheduled bilateral talks with each of the five Central Asian states, reflecting Washington's intent to strengthen individual relationships across the region. The trip underscores ongoing US efforts to maintain diplomatic engagement in Central Asia, an area of growing geopolitical significance.
The visit follows a period of increased US attention to Central Asian affairs, as Washington seeks to strengthen partnerships and address shared security and economic concerns in the region. The inclusion of India in the diplomatic itinerary further indicates a broader engagement strategy across South and South Asia.
