Marco Rubio, the Republican nominee for US Secretary of State, has emphasized that Ukraine's survival as a sovereign state depends significantly on continued American support. Speaking to media inquiries, Rubio highlighted the strategic importance of US commitment to the war-torn nation facing Russian military aggression.
His remarks emerge amid controversy surrounding allegations that Elon Musk, owner of the Starlink satellite communications network, ordered a deliberate reduction in service capabilities. The satellite system has become integral to Ukrainian military operations, enabling communications for defence forces conducting counter-strikes against Russian aerial bombardment campaigns.
The Starlink service has played a critical role in maintaining Ukrainian military coordination and civilian communications infrastructure amid relentless Russian attacks. Any disruption to the network could significantly hamper Ukraine's defensive capabilities at a crucial phase of the conflict.
