US Supreme Court allows expedited deportations to third countries to resume

The US Supreme Court on Tuesday granted the Trump administration's request to continue deportations to third countries while the justices deliberate on the policy's legality. The 6-3 order temporarily suspends an appeals court ruling that had required migrants be given a meaningful opportunity to object before being sent to nations where they have no established ties.

The Supreme Court indicated it would hear comprehensive arguments in December regarding whether the deportation programme complies with US law. Federal lawyers argued that the lower court's decision had forced the cancellation of a deportation flight carrying approximately 70 people destined for three different countries.

Under a network of often-confidential bilateral agreements, the Trump administration has deported roughly 25,000 individuals to more than two dozen nations since implementing the programme. While deportations have been distributed across countries including Liberia and Guyana, Mexico has received the vast majority of those being sent abroad.

This represents the second time the Supreme Court has intervened to permit the deportation flights to continue while legal proceedings move forward. The policy remains one of the Trump administration's signature immigration enforcement measures, though it has faced significant legal challenges from civil liberties advocates and immigration rights groups who question both its legality and humanitarian implications.
