US Suspends Major Indian IT Firms From Green Card Application Program
The United States has suspended eight information technology companies, including Indian majors Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, Wipro, and HCL Technologies, from participating in the green card sponsorship programme. The action reflects growing concerns over the use of the visa programme by foreign technology firms.

The US Department of Labor announced the suspension of the eight IT companies from the Permanent Labor Certification programme, which allows employers to sponsor foreign workers for permanent residency. According to officials, the firms were found to have violated programme regulations designed to protect domestic employment opportunities and ensure fair wage practices.
The suspension affects some of India's largest technology services exporters, which have historically been significant users of the H-1B visa programme and green card sponsorships to deploy skilled workers in the United States. Indian IT services firms have faced increased scrutiny from US authorities over practices related to visa-dependent staffing models.
The action represents a tightening of US immigration policies affecting the technology sector. Regulatory bodies have expressed concerns that reliance on foreign worker programmes may displace domestic talent and suppress wages in the technology industry. The suspension limits these companies' ability to file new green card applications during the enforcement period.
Industry analysts say the move could accelerate a shift among Indian IT firms toward increasing local hiring in the United States and developing alternative staffing strategies. The suspension underscores mounting regulatory pressure on technology companies regarding their employment practices and visa utilisation patterns.
