US targets Indian firms, individuals over Iran business dealings

The United States has sanctioned four companies based in India and three Indian individuals for conducting business with Iran, the latest move in Washington's broad effort to restrict Tehran's economic activities through unilateral measures.

The sanctions target entities and persons accused of facilitating trade or financial transactions that benefit Iran's economy. The action reflects the US strategy of penalizing third-country actors who maintain commercial ties with Tehran despite American pressure to isolate the Islamic Republic.

India, as a significant importer of Iranian oil and trading partner, has faced repeated US pressure to curtail its Iran business. New Delhi has previously resisted calls to completely sever economic ties, citing energy security concerns and longstanding trade relationships in the region.
