The United States has rolled out new restrictions targeting travel by its citizens to Cuba and broadened prohibitions on financial dealings involving Cuban state and private entities. The regulations, which take effect immediately, represent a significant tightening of bilateral relations between Washington and Havana.
Under the new framework, American travelers face heightened limitations on visits to the island, with exemptions narrowed considerably from previous allowances. The restrictions effectively reduce the categories of permitted travel, making it more difficult for US citizens to conduct business, educational programmes, or cultural exchanges with the Caribbean nation.
Simultaneously, the administration has expanded financial restrictions to encompass a broader range of Cuban entities involved in commercial activities. The measures target transactions involving government agencies, military enterprises, and designated private companies, effectively restricting American capital flows into Cuba's economy.
The policy shift reflects escalating tensions between the two nations and marks a departure from previous attempts at diplomatic warming. Cuba's government has not yet issued an official response to the new restrictions.
