A USD 57.4 million financing package has been structured to unlock new opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises seeking to reduce electricity costs through renewable energy adoption. The investment comprises a USD 35 million concessional loan from the Asian Development Bank, complemented by additional grant and equity components, creating a comprehensive financial framework for distributed energy projects.

The initiative addresses a significant barrier facing SMEs in their transition to cleaner energy sources: the upfront capital requirements for renewable installations. By reducing financing costs through concessional terms and structured support, the package aims to improve the economic viability of rooftop solar systems and other distributed renewable energy technologies for businesses across various sectors.

Beyond immediate cost savings for participating enterprises, the financing structure is designed to attract private investment into the renewable energy space. By de-risking projects through concessional funding and establishing proven implementation models, the package creates pathways for commercial investors to support the region's clean energy transition at scale.

The initiative reflects growing recognition that SMEs represent both a significant energy consumer base and an opportunity for rapid decarbonisation. By making renewable energy financing more accessible, the investment package aims to support business competitiveness while contributing to regional climate and sustainability objectives.
