USM Alger stun Sundowns to claim African Super Cup title

PRETORIA — USM Alger secured a stunning upset over hosts Mamelodi Sundowns, claiming the African Super Cup with a commanding 3-1 victory on Sunday at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria. Playing in persistent rain, the Algerian side delivered a performance that belied their status as underdogs against the South African champions.

Forward Ahmed Khaldi proved to be the decisive factor in the contest, both scoring and setting up teammates as USM Alger took control of the match. Despite Sundowns' efforts to rally in front of their home crowd, the visitors maintained their composure to secure the continental title.

The African Super Cup, contested between the champions of the African Champions League and the CAF Confederations Cup, provided both sides with an opportunity to claim Africa's premier inter-club trophy. USM Alger's victory marks a significant achievement for the Algerian club on the continental stage.
