Uttar Pradesh is moving forward with an ambitious highway expansion programme, committing ₹15,000 crore towards the construction of three greenfield expressways. The integrated network will span 565 kilometres and comprise the Vindhya Expressway, Meerut-Haridwar Expressway, and Vindhya Purvanchal Link Expressway.
The land acquisition process, a critical first phase of the project, is expected to affect approximately 650 villages across the state. Authorities estimate that roughly 8,200 hectares will need to be acquired for the expressway corridors and associated infrastructure.
The three-pronged expressway initiative is designed to improve regional connectivity and enhance transportation infrastructure across Uttar Pradesh. The projects are expected to facilitate better east-west and north-south linkages, potentially boosting economic activity in the regions they traverse.
The acquisition process is likely to involve detailed surveys, valuations, and consultations with affected communities. The state government's roadmap for the project indicates a phased implementation approach to manage the large-scale land acquisition requirement.
Once operational, the expressway network is expected to significantly reduce travel times between key destinations and support the state's broader infrastructure development objectives.
