Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday criticized opposition parties for what he characterized as a coordinated campaign to discredit key electoral institutions. Speaking at a press conference in the state capital, Adityanath alleged that the Congress and allied opposition groups were making unfounded claims about electronic voting machines and the Election Commission's functioning.
The Chief Minister contended that opposition parties resort to allegations about electoral irregularities only when facing electoral defeats, while crediting their victories to genuine public support. He suggested this selective criticism reflected a double standard aimed at undermining faith in India's democratic processes.
Adityanath further accused the opposition of attempting to weaken constitutional institutions through a deliberate campaign to damage the Election Commission's reputation. He described such efforts as detrimental to India's electoral system and democratic framework.
The remarks came amid ongoing political tensions in Uttar Pradesh, with opposition parties continuing to raise questions about electoral transparency and the use of electronic voting systems in recent elections.
