Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday made an appeal to individuals involved in past confrontations with Ram devotees to visit the holy city of Ayodhya, conditional on their seeking forgiveness for their actions.
Addressing the matter, Adityanath referenced incidents in which security personnel allegedly opened fire on devotees and police used force against religious figures and saints during previous decades. The Chief Minister's comments appeared directed at officials and authorities involved in such operations.
"Those who fired upon Ram devotees and subjected saints to humiliation and lathi charges should come to Ayodhya, but they must come seeking pardon," Adityanath stated, according to reports.
The remarks come in the context of Ayodhya's significance as the site of the newly constructed Ram Mandir, which has emerged as a major pilgrimage destination since its consecration. The Chief Minister's call appears aimed at reconciliation and spiritual redemption in the context of the temple city's religious importance.
The statement reflects ongoing political and social narratives in Uttar Pradesh regarding the handling of religious demonstrations and law enforcement actions during earlier periods of Ram Mandir agitation.
