Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered the suspension of revenue officials found guilty of delays and negligence in resolving land disputes, marking a sharp escalation in his administration's push to streamline bureaucratic processes.
During a public grievance hearing in Gorakhpur on Monday, Adityanath heard petitions from approximately 200 citizens. The directive specifically targets lekhpals (village accountants), kanungos (senior land surveyors), and tahsildars (revenue officers) who fail to expedite land-related matters or obstruct complainants seeking resolution.
The Chief Minister's orders were prompted by a woman's testimony regarding protracted land disputes that had remained unresolved due to official inaction. Adityanath instructed authorities to investigate cases of deliberate delay tactics and bureaucratic obstruction in land administration across the state.
The directive underscores the administration's stated commitment to improving service delivery in the revenue department, where land disputes have long been a source of public grievance. Officials have been warned of consequences for cases involving harassment of complainants or prolonged administrative delays in settling legitimate claims.
