The government of Uttar Pradesh, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has approved a 5 percent hike in dearness allowance (DA) and dearness relief (DR) for its employees and pensioners. The increase is effective immediately and will benefit hundreds of thousands of state government staff members across the state.
The decision comes as a festive season gesture, with the announcement coinciding with the Diwali celebrations. Government officials stated that the enhanced allowance aims to provide financial support to employees and retirees amid prevailing inflationary pressures affecting household budgets.
The dearness allowance is a cost-of-living adjustment provided to government employees and pensioners to offset the impact of inflation. With the 5 percent increase, employees and pensioners will receive enhanced monthly payments going forward.
The state government has been implementing periodic adjustments to dearness allowance in line with central government practices and prevailing economic conditions. This latest revision is expected to provide meaningful relief to the state's government workforce during the current fiscal period.
