Uttar Pradesh govt approves 30-day bonus for state employees ahead of Diwali

The Uttar Pradesh administration has greenlit a 30-day ad-hoc bonus for state government employees in the run-up to Diwali, marking a pre-festive season relief measure. The bonus structure has been designed with a mixed payment approach, with employees receiving 25 per cent of the amount in cash and the remaining 75 per cent credited to their provident fund accounts.

The scheme extends its benefits across the state's workforce, ensuring that retired employees receive the entire bonus amount as a lump sum cash payment. Daily wage workers employed by the government have also been included in the relief package, bringing wider coverage of the incentive.

The announcement comes as a significant boost for state employees during the festive period, one of the year's major spending seasons. The bifurcated payment structure—splitting disbursements between immediate cash relief and deferred provident fund contributions—allows employees both immediate purchasing power and enhanced retirement savings.

The approval reflects the state government's approach to employee welfare and comes ahead of one of India's most significant festivals, when households typically increase their spending on celebrations, purchases, and gifts.
