The Uttar Pradesh administration announced a five percent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees on Saturday, raising the rate from 58 percent to 63 percent. The enhanced allowance will apply to permanent and full-time staff of state government departments, aided educational and technical institutions, urban local bodies, work-charged employees, and those drawing salaries under UGC pay scales.
The new DA rate will come into effect from July 1, 2026, according to a government order issued by the state administration. The increased allowance will be disbursed alongside regular monthly salaries, with employees receiving the first payment with their November 2026 salary, alongside any applicable arrears from the effective date.
The decision is expected to provide financial relief to lakhs of employees across diverse sectors including education, local governance, and state administration. Government officials stated that the move would benefit not only regular state employees but also contractual staff in aided institutions and urban local bodies who fall under the eligible categories for dearness allowance.
