Authorities in Prayagraj have initiated a transformation project for Kasari-Masari, a locality long identified with the criminal activities of Atiq Ahmed, a gangster who was killed in an encounter in June 2023. The area is being rebranded as Shrikrishnapuri township as part of urban renewal efforts by the Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA).
The proposed Shrikrishnapuri township is designed to modernize the region through comprehensive infrastructure development. Plans include the establishment of a commercial market, public parks, dedicated sports facilities, and a gymnasium to serve residents and promote community engagement.
The Prayagraj Development Authority will oversee the entire development process, ensuring that the township meets contemporary urban standards. The initiative represents an effort to reclaim and rehabilitate an area previously associated with criminal elements, transforming it into a vibrant residential and commercial hub.
The project underscores the state's broader push to modernize urban areas in Uttar Pradesh while addressing historical legacies associated with particular localities. Such redevelopment initiatives aim to improve living conditions and create new economic opportunities for residents.
