Uttar Pradesh Slashes Rental Registration Fees to Ease Housing Market

The Uttar Pradesh cabinet has approved a restructured fee framework for rental agreements and lease deeds, effective for tenancies of up to ten years. Under the new structure, annual rental properties valued at up to two lakh rupees will attract a registration fee of 1,000 rupees, while those valued between two and six lakh rupees will incur a fee of 3,000 rupees. Properties valued between six and ten lakh rupees will be charged 4,500 rupees for registration.

The cabinet's decision is aimed at encouraging transparent rental transactions and reducing the administrative burden on both property owners and tenants. By lowering registration costs, the state government hopes to formalize more rental agreements, thereby providing legal protection to both parties and reducing disputes in the rental housing sector.

The cabinet also approved several other initiatives during its meeting, including the establishment of ECHS polyclinics for ex-servicemen, the Chitrakoot Link Expressway project, and enhanced welfare schemes for former military personnel. Additionally, the cabinet cleared provisions for the Agniveer recruitment scheme and cashless medical treatment facilities under the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Swasthya Suraksha Mission.
