Uttar Pradesh to build homes for poor on mafia-linked land in Prayagraj
The Uttar Pradesh government plans to construct housing for over 1,200 economically disadvantaged families on land seized from organised crime networks in Prayagraj. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has accused the previous Samajwadi Party administration of protecting criminals during its tenure.

The state government will develop residential units for poor families on property reclaimed from criminal elements in Prayagraj, marking a significant step in the government's anti-mafia operations and affordable housing initiatives. The project will be executed in two phases, with 602 families receiving homes in the first phase and 598 families in the second phase.
Chief Minister Adityanath alleged that the Samajwadi Party provided patronage to organised crime syndicates during its rule in Uttar Pradesh, enabling criminal networks to accumulate substantial landholdings. The conversion of seized criminal assets into public housing represents the government's dual approach of combating organised crime while addressing housing shortages for economically weaker sections.
The Prayagraj project is part of broader state-level efforts to neutralise mafia operations and redistribute their illegal assets for public welfare. Officials indicated that the housing scheme would provide long-term residential stability for beneficiary families while simultaneously demonstrating the government's commitment to dismantling criminal networks and their economic base.
The development comes amid ongoing crackdowns on organised crime in Uttar Pradesh, which have resulted in the seizure of substantial properties and assets. Housing allocation from such reclaimed properties has become an increasingly common mechanism for state authorities to serve dual objectives of crime suppression and poverty alleviation.
