Uttar Pradesh to distribute free tablets to 2.5 million students

The Uttar Pradesh government is preparing to launch a major digital initiative aimed at equipping Generation-Z students with free tablets as part of its efforts to enhance educational access and technological literacy across the state.

Under the Swami Vivekananda Youth Empowerment Scheme, the distribution programme will benefit approximately 2.5 million students across multiple educational categories. Eligible beneficiaries include graduates, postgraduate degree holders, diploma students, ITI trainees, and youth enrolled in skill development programmes.

The state has earmarked ₹2,374.60 crore in its financial allocation for the fiscal year 2026-27 to support the initiative. This substantial budgetary provision underscores the government's commitment to bridging the digital divide and providing technology access to young learners across socio-economic backgrounds.

The tablet distribution scheme is positioned as a means to enhance digital skills and educational opportunities for youth in the state, aligning with broader national initiatives focused on technological advancement and skill development in the region.
