Uttar Pradesh to distribute interest-free credit to one crore women entrepreneurs

The Uttar Pradesh administration is rolling out a major credit scheme targeting approximately one crore women members of self-help groups, with plans to disburse the initial tranche of Rs 20,000 per beneficiary without interest charges.

The programme represents a significant push to accelerate women's entrepreneurial participation across multiple economic sectors. State authorities have identified key focus areas including banking services, digital commerce platforms, government procurement channels and rural product markets as priority domains for growth.

The interest-free credit disbursement is designed to reduce financial barriers for women entrepreneurs who traditionally face constraints in accessing capital for business expansion and establishment. By removing the burden of interest payments, officials believe the scheme will enable beneficiaries to retain greater profits and reinvest in their enterprises.

The initiative aligns with broader state-level efforts to strengthen women's economic participation and promote self-employment in both urban and rural areas. The first instalment distribution marks the beginning of a phased rollout expected to benefit a substantial portion of Uttar Pradesh's self-help group network.
